Maestro Giovanni Setaro
A life devoted to music, the art of violin making, and the pursuit of exceptional sound.
A Lifetime in Pursuit of Sound
Maestro Giovanni Setaro began his journey as a musician before extending his knowledge to the art of violin making and the restoration of fine stringed instruments.
This dual understanding of music and craftsmanship has shaped his distinctive approach to instruments and their acoustic potential.
His experience has made him a valued point of reference for musicians seeking to refine the tonal qualities, responsiveness, and expressive possibilities of their instruments.
His appreciation of the great historical schools of violin making, traditional materials, and the relationship between construction and sound has informed his continuing pursuit of exceptional musical instruments.
“The search for sound has accompanied my musical journey since my very first encounter with the violin.”Maestro Giovanni Setaro
Where Musical Expression Meets Craftsmanship
For Maestro Setaro, the pursuit of sound extends beyond technical mastery. A musician may devote countless hours to study, yet the full realization of musical expression also depends on the instrument’s individual qualities and the care with which it is adjusted.
His passion for violin making grew from the desire to find the balance that would allow an instrument to reveal its fullest expressive potential. This search was closely connected to his own experience with a fine violin by Giovanni Francesco Pressenda.
The study of historical schools of violin making, materials, arching, and wood thickness became essential elements of his understanding of sound and craftsmanship.
Guided by the musical legacy of Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms, his work reflects a continuing dialogue between artistic expression, tradition, and the distinctive voice of each instrument.
